Today it was time to clean out the water bottles! If you feel around the inside of the water bottle and it feels slimy instead of squeaky clean, you know it's time for a cleaning.
If you do not own a bottle brush yet for cleaning your guinea pig's water bottle, I recommend you pick one up - it makes cleaning those water bottles so easy! They bend easy and work wonders.

For cleaning inside the cap and spout, a nipple brush or Q-tip is a big help. I am currently using a nipple brush, although the neck on mine is very wide, so it doesn't reach as far as I'd like. Try to find one with a longer wire neck if you pick one up.
I run the nipple brush around the inside of the cap and down the spout while twisting it around. Then I use it in the other end of the spout the same way. Rinse well.

I bend the bottle brush to an angle so it's easier to reach the sides in the bottle. I run it around the inside top of the bottle first, and work all the way down to the bottom of the water bottle. I then add some water, shake, and dump it out.

This will keep the water clean and your guinea pigs healthy. :)
Another way (if u don't have a bottle brush) is to put crushed ice..a little salt and some lemon juice in the bottle...replace cap and shake vigorously for several minutes...make sure you rinse well...piggies don't need extra salt :)
